The Regional Response Team (RRT) Northeast2 is made up of members of fire departments and law enforcement agencies from Columbus, Starkville, and West Point. This team, one of 9 in the state, is designated by the State of Mississippi Department of Homeland Security and trained to respond to weapons of mass destruction (WMD) terrorist incidents or natural disasters in the state.
Training
Members of this team are trained in WMD, hazardous materials, and urban search and rescue (USAR).
Hurricane Katrina Response
After Hurricane Katrina hit the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2005, the RRT Northeast2 responded to the disaster and was deployed for search and rescue.
