Jammie L. Garrett
Jammie L. Garrett joined the City of Columbus as the Chief Operations Officer in 2022. Prior to the City of Columbus, Garrett held various leadership positions including her work as a Training Support Specialist at the Mississippi Supreme Court and manager of the procurement, payroll and budget for the MS School of the Arts.
As Chief Operations Officer, Garrett oversees the day to day operations of thirteen (13) departments within the City of Columbus. In her role, Garrett ensures that all departments function efficiently and cohesively. She is responsible for implementing policies, managing budgets and facilitating communication between the City and its citizens.
Garrett's leadership has been instrumental in driving iniatitives that promote sustainability, economic development and community engagement. Garrett credits her passion for local governance to having toured the Mississippi Delta as a part of a political development initiative to bring industry to the region and interviewing an agent from Oxfam International concerning the crisis in Darfur.
Garrett believes the power to advance equity, in part starts with having a heart for service and a voice at the table. She is steadfast in her commitment to removing barriers and increasing opportunities for those in marginalized communities because developing leaders increases the diverse thoughts, ideas and experiences that help shape policy.
Garrett has a Bachelor of Arts & Letters in Political Science with an emphasis in Foreign Policy from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Juris Doctorate from Southern University Law Center. Garrett is currently working on a Masters in Public Administration at Belhaven University.
Garrett is a native of Hazlehurst, Mississippi.
