The Columbus Mayor's Youth Council (CMYC) is dedicated to fostering improvements in our community through community service. This year, the CMYC is returning after nearly a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic that largely changed the way in which we meet.

The return also marks a milestone in the new administration as this will be the first CMYC under Mayor Keith Gaskin. At his request, we have been challenged to recreate the CMYC with a greater focus on influencing public policy, particularly those that affect youth. These efforts will likely include close communication with local elected officials. The mayor, former president, and I have discussed the idea of representation by ward. This basically translates to team leaders from each ward who report on their efforts in their particular ward, including communication with their ward's councilmember. Of course, this would be limited to six individuals each from one particular ward. So, this representative would be chosen based on merit.

These are just some of the many potential components of the new CMYC. As is quite apparent, we are still creating the frame for what our 2022 CMYC will look like, and the enrollment date has not been set yet. I am looking to start enrollment by mid-July, because we have to allocate time for interviews, appointment decisions, and the Induction Ceremony. I will be preparing applications soon, so feel free to contact me with any questions. Thank you for your interest!
