Fire Station Number 1
Fire Station Number 1 was built in 1981 and is located at 205 7th Street South. It is headquarters for Columbus Fire and Rescue and is home to 30 fire personnel. It houses Engine Companies 21 and 30, and Ladder Company 19. The Luxapalila, one of two steam-powered fire engines used to fight fire in Columbus in the 1880s is on display at Station Number 1 and is an attraction to visitors in Columbus, both young and old.
Offices for the Fire Chief, Assistant Chief, Chief of Training, Battalion Chiefs, and Administrative Assistant are located at this station. Fire Station Number 1 is dedicated to the memory of Ralph “Chicken” Webb, a local businessman who volunteered many hours at Columbus Fire Department.
