CITY OF COLUMBUS, MISSISSIPPI
The City of Columbus is accepting applications for the position of Entry-Level
Firefighter. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and must be a citizen of the United
States. Applicants must also have attained a standard high school diploma or have
received a valid GED. A copy of the diploma or GED certificate MUST be submitted to the
City’s Human Resources Office. Applicants may apply at the City’s Website listed below.
Applicants will be given a general information sheet, including salary for this
position, upon request for an application. The City has a generous benefit package, which
includes paid vacation and sick leave, holiday pay, health, dental and life insurance, and a
Firefighters work 24-hour shifts.
The City of Columbus has adopted a Nepotism Policy that is discussed in detail on
the application for employment and must be signed as part of the application process.
Each applicant must attend a scheduled MANDATORY Orientation session that will
cover firefighting procedures and policies, hours, and the City’s benefit package.
