Columbus Fire and Rescue Receives New Response Vehicle
COLUMBUS, Miss – Monday, March 7, 2016 at 11am at Fire Station One, Columbus Fire and Rescue will unveil its newly acquired medical response vehicle, MED-1. The vehicle will go online the same day at 12pm and will respond to all non-life threatening emergency medical calls, with engine companies still responding to all life-threatening calls.
MED-1 will cover all of Columbus until 2017. In 2017, the department is expecting to receive a second vehicle, MED-2, thanks to approval, efforts, and assistance from Mayor Smith and the city council who recently approved the purchase of the vehicle and the hiring of six additional firefighters to help man the vehicle. The department is expecting to hire an additional six firefighters in the coming year to help man MED-2.
