COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) --- Officer Stanley weighs in at a lean 80 pounds and can run at speeds more than 40 miles per hour, and he is the newest member of the Columbus Police Department.

Stanley is a Berlgian Malinois, and he will be a part of the first K-9 Unit in the police department in more than five years. Columbus canine office Mo Equires showed Stanley off to the public on Friday, but he isn't a part of the force just yet.  Stanley has to complete two more weeks of training before getting his certification at the end of March.  The city of Columbus is paying almost $9,000 for Stanley after a deal with a private donor fell through.
