Criminal investigations Division
Columbus Police Department, Criminal Investigation Division (CID) conducts criminal investigations regarding alleged violations into serious felonious crimes. These would include robberies, burglaries, sexual offenses, fraud, serious assaults, murders and cold cases.
Criminal investigation is an applied science that involves the study of facts, used to identify, locate and prove the guilt of an accused criminal. A complete criminal investigation can include searching, interviews, interrogations, evidence collection and preservation and various methods of investigation.

The Patrol Division is commanded by Captain Anthony Nelson and has 65 officers, one civilian clerical member
Public Relations Office
It is the policy of the Columbus Police Department to cooperate fully and impartially with authorized news media representatives in their efforts to gather factual, public information. The PIO prepares news releases, coordinates print and broadcast coverage of agency events, and acts as the liaison between the Columbus Police Department and the local and national media at crime scenes and other activities which generate media interest.
